They do close the vent 100% but there is some minor air leakage. It's not much at all but I think they let some through on purpose so they can measure the temp, pressure, etc.

I don't think Inactive = Away... I set a room to Inactive yesterday and set the max away temperature to 80 and it let the room get to 87 degrees. I had thought it would open the vent occasionally ...

Ken Schnautz - I know this thread is old but wondering about manual mode. There isn't a lot of info in the support manuals on this. When in manual mode, is it possible to setup some configurations...

I'm still learning how the system works but from what I can tell so far you need more vents than just in the couple areas you are having trouble in. As you've found, just covering (closing) a couple of vents isn't sufficient.
