Open / close particular vent – Flair

Vitaliy K

Hi guys.

Is there a way to open/close particular vent?

E.g. I want to close vent right above our dining table while we are having dinner.

Is this possible to do with Flair or Samsung SmartThings (I haven't setup integration yet)?

Thanks

Hi Vitaly—thanks for the question!

Right now, while in Auto mode, there is no "switch" to open/close a specific Smart Vent because the Flair algorithms are constantly checking to see which Smart Vents to open and close. If you place your system in Manual mode, you will be able to open/close specific Smart Vents.

There is a workaround that will allow you to close a Smart Vent. You can temporarily remove a temperature source for a room and the Smart Vent for that specific room will default to manual mode. To do so

Here is a brief GIF on the above process:

Thanks for reply, unfortunately this looks too complicated for workaround. Switching AC off and on is a way easier (but defeats Flair purpose :)

Please consider this as a feature request:

Add ability to close particular vent based on schedule or temporary (e.g. for next 30 minutes). This override should work in both manual and automatic mode

Thanks Vitaliy—we will pass this request to our engineering team!

There is another option, which may be a few fewer clicks. If you switch the system to “manual” mode, you can then open the vents manually as desired. After dinner, switch back to “Auto”.

We would like to request this feature too. When my wife works, she would like the vent next to her to close (there is another one in the same room).

Would be great if we could close it as part of the daily schedule.

I needed to close a vent for a few weeks so hot air wouldn’t blow on the fresh cedar garland we hung around the fireplace and dry it out. I switched the system to manual, then went and closed that vent. Next I (temporarily) removed this vent from the house while it was closed so it will just sit there “dead” and closed. Finally I switched the house back to auto. I’ll have to add this vent back to the house and room once the garland is gone.

"Add ability to close particular vent based on schedule or temporary (e.g. for next 30 minutes). This override should work in both manual and automatic mode"

Six years later and they still have no simple, logical smarts built into these things.....
