How do I know what I need?

Central Communicating Device (Hub)

Every Flair system needs a central communicating device (hub). The hub is connected to the internet and communicates between the Flair hvacOS™ cloud and all your in-home Flair devices (Pucks and Smart Vents).

The Flair Bridge and Puck are both capable of functioning as a hub.

The Bridge offers enhanced features including:

Simplified network connectivity through the inclusion of an ethernet connection option as an additional alternative to Wi-Fi.
Extended wireless communication range to cover a 2,500+ sq ft home with a centrally located Bridge. Layout and building materials impact range. Additional Bridges can be added to increase range.
Increased device connection capacity to support 30+ devices on a single Bridge.
Enables a fully wireless (battery operated) home climate control experience.

For new home installations, the Bridge is the required hub.

Existing home installations that currently use the Puck as a Wi-Fi Gateway continue to be fully supported. However, users that wish to convert from a Gateway Puck to the Bridge can simply install a Bridge and convert the Puck to a Room Sensor to enjoy the enhanced Bridge features.

Flair Bridge

For central HVAC systems with ductwork: A Bridge is required . Every new Flair home using Smart Vents requires a Bridge to serve as the central networking device.

A centrally located Bridge covers ~2,500 sq ft homes. Layout and building materials impact range. Additional Bridges can be added to increase range.

For mini splits/ductless heat pumps: A Bridge is recommended . Want your Puck to be fully wireless? You need a Bridge. Comfortable with a wired connection? You don't need a Bridge.

If you're using Flair Pucks to run multiple head units, we recommend integrating a Bridge into your system for expedited setup and enhanced connectivity.

Note for existing home installations: Using the Puck as the central networking device is fully supported. We recommend the Bridge if you need extended wireless range, have many connected devices, or want fully wireless (battery operated) Pucks.

Smart Vents

What size do I need? To determine your vent size, measure your duct openings.

Remember to measure ALL your duct openings as there can be different sized vents throughout your home.

Remove your existing vent cover
Measure the length and width of the duct opening

How many do I need?

A Room with Too Much Airflow

Have a room that’s too cold in the summer and too hot in the winter?

Start off with a Puck/temperature sensor and a Smart Vent just for this room.

A Room with Too Little Airflow

Have a room that’s too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter?

Place a Puck/temperature sensor in this room, and then use Pucks/temperature sensors and Smart Vents for the other rooms.

Uneven Temps Across Your Home

Do your room temperatures change depending on the time of day and season of year?

You’ll need Pucks/temperature sensors and Smart Vents for every major room in your home.

No, Flair works alongside your existing thermostat to improve comfort across your home. Bridge

What is a Bridge?

A dedicated plug-and-play networking gateway device for Flair systems, enabling simple setup and fully wireless connectivity for all controller Pucks and Smart Vents.

How does the Bridge Work?

Use the Bridge to access Flair hvacOS™, configure and control your Flair system.

Connect directly to your router via Ethernet for quicker setup and more dependable connectivity, or utilize Wi-Fi.

Do I need a Bridge?

Smart Vents

How do flair smart vents work?

Flair Smart Vents replace your existing vents to automatically redirect airflow in your home. Fix rooms that are notoriously too hot or cold, balance temperatures across your home, and save energy and money in the process.

Flair Smart Vents communicate with your existing thermostat through the Flair Puck, which can also be used as a sensor for each room.

Do Flair Smart Vents need WI-FI?

Flair's Pucks and Smart Vents are cloud-based IoT devices.

Smart Vent systems are powered by the Bridge, Flair's dedicated plug-and-play networking device, that connects via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

In the case of a connection or power outage, your Flair system will enter a fail-safe mode where all Smart Vents will open automatically. Flair will automatically start up again once power and connectivity are restored.

What is Flair Backpressure Protection?

Flair's Backpressure Protection limits the number of Smart Vents that can be closed at one time. Flair will never close more than 1/3 of the total vents in a system - this is based on the total number of vents in your home, not just Smart Vents.

This has shown to be safe by a Lawrence Berkeley National Labs study. To go further, we used a 100% safety margin over their conclusions.

How are Flair Smart Vents Powered?

Flair Smart Vents use 2 x C-Cell batteries that last up to 3 years.

Batteries are included with Flair Smart Vents.

24VAC wired installation is also available.

Do I need a smart thermostat to use Flair?

Flair works with all thermostats! You don't need a smart thermostat to use Flair.

For central systems using an integrated smart thermostat, Flair works in two ways to manage temperature: 1) redirect airflow via Smart Vents, and 2) optionally control a smart thermostat.

For central systems using a non-integrated or traditional thermostat, Flair will manage temperature by redirecting airflow via Smart Vents.

Pucks

Do Flair Pucks need WI-FI?

Flair's Pucks are cloud-based IoT devices.

If using a Bridge (Flair's dedicated plug-and-play networking device) you can connect via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and all Pucks can be setup wirelessly.

If not using a Bridge, at least one Puck in every system requires Wi-Fi and wired AC power to operate.

How are Flair Pucks Powered?

Flair Pucks are designed for use with 2 x AAA batteries that last ~1 year.

Batteries are included with Flair Pucks. Additionally Pucks come with a cable and adapter.

Can I use the Puck 2 as a Gateway?

No. The Puck 2 cannot function as a Gateway.

Can I use room sensors from my thermostat with Flair?

Yes—Flair supports room sensors from select smart thermostat brands, including ecobee, Honeywell Home, and Sensi.

ecobee: All ecobee SmartSensors are supported with ecobee thermostats.
Honeywell Home: Smart Room Sensors are supported when used with compatible thermostats (T9, T10, and X-Series).
Sensi: Sensi Sensors (indoor) are supported with the Sensi Touch 2 Smart Thermostat.

Important: Room sensors must be paired with their matching thermostat brand (for example, ecobee sensors require an ecobee thermostat).

I already have a Puck (1) set up as a Gateway — can I connect a Puck 2 to it?

No. The Puck 2 cannot connect to a Puck (1) Gateway.
